We tend not to concern when total protein is high but the components are not deviating too much from the normal range. If both albumin and globulin levels are high but the ratio A/G is 1.2 or above, you should be fine. The contraction of your intravascular volume can increase the total protein and its respective components. I often see that pattern when serum sodium is higher than 142.
