A member asked:

1 yr old did routine blood. her rbc 5.62, hemo 14.5, hematocrit 44%, rdw 15.8. rest else normal. she is breastfed, takes vitamin d drops and eats food. why is it high? blood draw 8am, vials not filled adequately, hard time finding her veins, crying?

A very difficult blood draw can cause spurious results of the cbc as well as with some other blood tests. I recommend a repeat blood draw in which the specimen is adequate.

If she is otherwise we'll and growing normally, you may follow up as needed. Ensure adequate hydration and a healthy diet.
