I have had hypothryroid disease since i was 19, i'm 62 now. i have been on medication the entire time and as i've aged they have increased the medication. my doctor now tells me i have hashimotos diease, is that possible to get it after all these yea?

The terminology: Hashimotos disease may have been the cause of the hypothyroid disease to begin with. Hypothyroid disease could be due to various reasons including Hashimoto's disease so you do not need to be alarmed.

You may have had Hashimoto's all along. In any case this label is not meaningful for person who has been hypothyroid for 40+ years. Do follow your doctor's advice for periodic TSH tests to make sure that you are taking an adequate amount of the thyroid medication. Wish you good health!
