While most coronaviruses affect your upper respiratory system like a cold, Covid-19 has more diffuse effects. Covid-19 can certainly cause significant lower respiratory infection (lungs) and also can affect systems throughout the body in different ways.

No. Covid 19 is a systemic infection. The infection is acquired through the upper respiratory system but soon spreads to lungs and rest of the body.
