May it be smarter to go to a periodontist's office where there is an ultrasonic scaling device available vs. having only a manual approach done for deep scaling and root planing?

Ultrasonic scaler‘s are more efficient during scaling & root planing compared to manually using curettes. Ultrasonics have the advantage of creating cavitation to reduce calculus and endotoxins on the root surface. Most dental offices today use ultrasonic scalers but if one is not available I would seek out an office that has one. A periodontist is a good choice for comprehensive treatment.

The instrument/tool being welded is of less importance than the skill of the operator. A dental pocket deeper than 3mm is considered to not be maintainable by standard oral hygiene procedures alone. Additional professionally provided care is required. If your Dentist/Hygienist team have you on a successful maintenance program stay whereby are. If pockets deepening, see a Periodontist.

The smartest thing to do is to seek the care of a professional that will successfully treat periodontitis and then maintain that good oral health. A sharp scaler will plane the root surface and result in a smooth, mirror like finish, something a ultrasonic tip cannot do.
