My mom has had leg pain for a couple days. u/s showed no clot but her d-dimer is elevated. what could cause the elevated d-dimer?

There are many conditions which can be the cause of elevated D-dimer. Blood clot is suspected when D-dimer is high but not all people with elevated D-dimer have venous thrombosis. Please note that leg pain is not a typical symptom of deep venous thrombosis.
