Urinary Infection: Given your age there is more of an urgency about this. The common reasons for blood in the urine include kidney stones, infection in the bladder, the prostate, or the urethra. If you are a smoker then renal cell carcinoma has to be on the list. And, then there are the worries about a possible prostate tumor. Please get to see your family doctor soon.

Gross hematuria : Gross hematuria (visible blood in the urine) along with flank pain in a 50-year-old male can have more than one cause. Infection along the the urogenital system & kidney stones are the most common. Other things such as malignancy and a ruptured cyst are also possible. A red urine may not always be blood & "urethra pain" may not be urethra pain. A doctor should be consulted for these symptoms.
