A member asked:

Can an 85 yr old heal from a jefferson burst fracture of c1, with midline anterior arch fracture and fractures of the posterior arch at the levels/course of vertebral arteries. fracture base of the dens, with at least 6 mm of anterior separation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The pace of healing is clearly age dependent, and fracture stabilization is very slow indeed above age 80 yrs. Would discuss this with an orthopedic surgeon and check out various options for healing, such as bone stimulation, ongoing need for cervical bracing, surgical interventions, etc.
