A member asked:

Exposure was mutual masturbation with a woman (small transfer of fluids) and kissing. took syphilis test at 5 weeks which was neg. took another today at 8 weeks. how accurate is this percentage wise? need to re-test? if so 12 weeks or 90 days?

Any time there is an exchange of bodily fluids than you are susceptible to an STD. Saliva contains infectious material, and if one has bleeding gums, more transmission is available. Testing is reliable any time after 3 or more weeks but if so concerned get tested up to 9 0 days later. No future testing if you practice safe sex.

This was a zero risk event for all practical purposes. Syphilis is rare in women in the UK; even if infected, syphilis transmission is exceedingly rare by hand-genital contact or kissing; and at 8 weeks a negative blood test is nearly 100% conclusive. You really didn't need testing at all, but feel free to do it again at 12 weeks for a truly conclusive blood test result.
