A member asked:

My grandma 82 has had a painful breast lump for 3 weeks. ultrasound showed another lump on armpit: lymphadenopathy inflammatory. she had fever once and just a little redness over breast lump. no breast changes. no family history. can this be cancer?

Breast abscess versus breast cancer, likely the former, breast examination is necessary for a correct diagnosis and treatment. I put my money in the diagnosis of breast abscess which should be treated with antibiotic + incision/drainage (I&D).

I agree with Dr. Le's assessment & advice. However I'd be more comfortable if a breast surgeon was involved in this case.
