D&C GA: Most d&cs under ga are done with either mask or an lma, not a breathing tube. An lma is like a small mask that is placed in your throat, but not in your windpipe. The catheter issue is up the gynecologist. In either case you would be asleep when it happens.

D&C under GA: The lma or laryngeal mask airway is used to secure the breathing during the general anesthesia. This form of anesthesia is both invasive for the body and complex. It has severe potential side effects although safe in the hands of an anesthesiologist. Not to place an IV before induction is something that is not standard of practice in the usa, and it may have life threatening consequences.

See below: A urinary catheter is frequently briefly placed but not left in during the procedure or in the recovery room. Ga can be done either with a breathing tube or a laryngeal mask.
