When an injured patient describes a "pop", the doctor will often ask: "Did you feel a pop or hear a pop?" When we strain or tear a muscle we feel the pop and then pain. When a tendon ruptures it creates an audible snapping sound. Tendons have minimal nerve innervation, so we often don't feel much but lose function of the detached muscle. This is a serious injury.
