Doubt diagnosis: "septic tonsillitis" may be an idiosyncratic term for a strep throat, a retropharyngeal abscess (which killed george washington), ludwig's deep tissue infection, or any of several other throat infections that have nothing to do with whether the palatine tonsils are still present. Or the pharyngeal tonsils, which are usually left in, may have been infected.

Tonsillectomy Tonsil: Tonsillitis is an inflammation or infection of the tonsils. We have four sets of tonsils. Tonsillectomy only removes one of the four sets. While one can't get tonsillitis after tonsillectomy, one can get any infection or irritation of the pharynx (throat) after tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomy generally decreases the frequency of pharyngitis after surgery. I wish tonsillectomy cured all sore throats!
