At "39" there may be a time of "pre-menopause" , leading to gaps in menstruation due to refractory response by aging follicles (eggs) in the ovaries...this delay in ovulation will of course delay a true mentstrual event, and usually a more regular sequence will be re-established, with a higher FSH level to produce more predictable menstruation. Ask your GYN about low dose oral BCP's.
