A member asked:

If i were very deficient in iron/ferritin, then ate some iron rich foods and had a blood test afterwards- would that raise my levels to normal? does iron/ferritin work like that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It takes more than one or even a few iron rich meals to correct the deficiency. Taking 60 mg oral iron daily will take a few months to correct the deficiency. Depending on the cause and extent of deficiency you may wish to discuss with your doctor about getting an intravenous infusion of iron. That can get it done in one sitting. Wish you good health!
