Treatment for symptomatic E. histolytica should include two sessions: a 10 day course of oral antibiotic to eliminate the invading trophozoites and a 7 day course of intraluminal agent for eradicating intestinal carriage of the organism (to prevent the transmission to family members). The first session is important. Most of the time this parasitic infection does not have long term consequence.

I would invest in the $ for a subscription to uptodate.com and read all about it. It can kill and maim but proper treatment is almost always effective. It can be spread to others by the ameba in your stool Take care and wash hands.
