I was cooking in the kitchen and then smelled a really bad smell when i approached the potatoes . i immediately threw them away because they were rotten . can the gas emitted from potatoes kill or cause harm to me or my children ?

Any harmful effects would have been acute and deleterious at the time. You and the family are likely fine. However, rotten potatoes stored in mass quantities in poorly ventilated areas have resulted in deaths. Unlikely that this would occur in the usual homes.

If there was any risk of harmful effects, it would have been obvious at the time of exposure. There is no harm to you or your children. Wish you good health!
