A member asked:

The dr said i had ascending cholangitis while the lab dr said i had acute cholangitis. i have responded well to antibiotics and stone is now removed but i'm confused on the ascending vs acute thing. do they have same meaning?

Bth "ascending" and "acute" cholangitis refer to the same clinical entity, and both are relieved by the "stone removal". If the stone was located in the common bile duct, it is probable that other stones may form in the gall bladder and cause similar problems. Your GI physician may recommend at some point to have the gall bladder removed.
