Can a person being weak from hunger make breathing more difficult? especially if they are somewhat overweight?

Hunger is unlikely to make breathing difficult. Being overweight however could affect breathing.

Obesity is associated with pulmonary function alteration. The weakness described suggests that chest wall muscles may also be weak. This may be associated with difficulty breathing. A pulmonary function test, metabolic lab analysis, and a visit with your PCP is recommended. COVID 19 testing is suggested as indicated. Keep all vaccinations current. Watch for signs of exertional shortness of breath.
