Adams apple is a lay term for prominent thyroid cartilage. It usually becomes noticeable in boys around puberty. It is driven by male sex hormones. If a woman has a prominent thyroid cartilage it would be prudent to consult a doctor so that other markers of hormonal imbalance could be evaluated.
