Is it normal to feel a hard large lump under the adams apple? is this just the throat or a tumour?

Likely not: A tumor. Could be a thyroglossal duct cyst which is congenital and benign (though sometimes they can get infected). Best to see an ENT doctor (ultrasound may be needed to further investigate).
