Coxsackie B virus is usually only capable of acute infection that is rapidly cleared by the adaptive immune response. However, a mutated quasispecies of Coxackie B virus is capable of causing persistent infection in human tissues, and such infections have been found in chronic myocarditis or dilated cardiomyopathy. Please note that this is different from latency then reactivation like herpes.
