If a kidney infection gets worse, can the flank pain feel worse/more noticeable when taking deep breaths in and out (in addition to the usual constant dull flank pain?

It may because the kidney does move with deep breathing but not always because the pain is mainly from the renal capsule which is not affected much with the kidney's motion.

Acute Kidney infection causes fever, chills and pain in the kidney area. chronic infection has very few symptoms. Your symptoms require evaluation for kidney and other causes of pain. Pl see an MD/ Urologist asap. In the meantime drink water and take some ibuprofen. Hope you feel better
