familial hypertension is not the best term as some are do to specific genes and require specific therapy. Guidelines always recommend trying the DASH eating plan first. It if works lowers BP in 2 weeks. Ask you Dr why they did not recommend this first. Next diuretics are usually recommended as first step. You did not give your ethnicity. In general ACEs don't work in those of African descent.
