The upper back pain you describe could be caused by a number of medical problems, including, but not limited to muscle issues, cardiovascular problems and spinal issues. A team approach, including a cardiologist and an orthopedic surgeon could assess your symptoms with targeted tests including imaging (chest and spine X-rays) as well as a careful history and physical exam.
