A member asked:

Can a uterine prolapse cause constipation during periods?

The uterus is usually suspended by ligaments in the pelvis, but it is the "front door" neighbor to the rectum. Once the uterus falls down on top of the rectum, constipation can occur at any time in the menstrual cycle.

Constipation is a condition in which you may have fewer than three bowel movements a week. Most cases are due to dehydration where the body is trying to remove all the water from the stool. Uterine prolapse can cause a physical obstruction on the rectum that can increase the difficulty with bowel movements, especially if the patient is already constipated.
