If the tooth is broken down and weak than any force from biting will cause further breaking and cracking. The best solution is to see a dentist to restore the tooth.

Not much. Diamonds can be broken, granite can be broken, both much harder than teeth. Bite down the wrong way at the wrong angle at the wrong time and you can unwittingly fracture a tooth.
