Hi, my son 40 days old failed oae test but seems to respond to sounds at home. the technician told that it could be due to vernix in the ear. could you please guide us?

The OAE test is a good screening test, but an abnormal result should be confirmed with additional testing by Audiology. Vernix in the ear is one possible cause, but infection is another particularly during the first few months of life. It is a good indication though if the baby is turning to sound at home, and most likely everything is fine. Watch for an signs of infection, e.g. fever.
