I have had a few patients who had strokes with patent foramen ovale.. One had a recurrent stroke due to treatment failure. Collaboration between the cardiologist and neurologist is important to decide the best treatment for your particular situation. Don't delay in getting advice and treatment whether it's patching, surgical closure or anticoagulant medication.
