If my tonsils are causing sleep apnea should they be removed? adult?

This would depend on why you think they are causing sleep apnea. Did a sleep study/sleep doc tell you this or did you assume this from your reading. If you have true sleep apnea the treatment will depend on the origin of the problem. Tonsil size may or may not be the problem so removing them may or may not help.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. Enlarged tonsils would have to be large enough to be almost touching each other to cause apnea. Consulting a sleep specialist is warranted. Wish you good health!

The relationship between the tonsils and posterior pharyngeal space should be assessed. If there is crowding, other options include oral appliances. Have you had a sleep study and if so, the AHI and other parameters may be provided. Are you experiencing symptoms?
