A friend of mine has had a moderate loss of smell for several years with no other symptoms. an mri revealed a small abnormal spot on the brain. any ideas what this could be? thanks?

The "spot on the brain" may or may not correlate, depending on location and character. One consideration is an olfactory groove meningioma, but a chronic sinus problem or other issues with base of skull might be considered. Need to discuss all of this with your doctor.
