Persistent pain after such electrodiagnostic procedures are uncommon. Was the procedure performed by a neurologist or a technician? Overly exuberant actions can result in nerve injuries. The persistence of pain has no diagnostic significance, however. Any nerve injury or inflammation caused by the procedure should resolve in time. I would, however, report your pain to your MD or neurologist.

EMG needles can cause local bruising and very rarely bleeding and/or infections. Stimulating nerves by electrical shocks may be temporarily uncomfortable and limbs do jump, but there is NO NERVE DAMAGE EVER, if handled competently. In general, an EMG is very safe, and your reaction is very unique! Yes, there is need to confer with your doctor.
