Any abnormal bleeding warrants an evaluation. It may be as simple as hemorrhoids, but bleeding from hemorrhoids can cause anemia. It is imperative that you see your primary care provider for an in-person evaluation. Rectal bleeding for a person above 50 years old needs to investigated, especially you have not had a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy in the previous 8 years and this is the first time you have rectal bleeding. Please contact your doctor as soon as possible.
