A member asked:

My friend's cat went up on her lap to get her food. in the process, one of her claws went in the skin, on the side of her nail. it's been almost a day and a half since that happened and it still hurts. kinda reddish too, is it rabies?

Likely not with the lesion due to cat's claw. It is quite common to have pain and inflammation with that type of lesion at least a day or two. If fever occurs or there is evidence of infection spread (redness streaks on the skin with tender regional nodes, armpit or groin), you may need antibiotic.
