PCOS is typically diagnosed with findings of virilization (hair growth on face/chest), increased testosterone (acne, deepening voice), and ovarian follicles on a pelvic ultrasound. Unfortunately, there are also atypical type PCOS. Irregular periods require a work up to include checking thyroid and prolactin levels and evaluating your social situation, and birth control and pregnancy history
