Achilles stretching: There is a relationship between heel pain (usually plantar fasciitis) and having increased tightness of the gastrosoleus muscle complex. A regular program of calf stretches can decrease the overall tension in the plantar fascia . It may take months to have its effect. A good pair of well cushioned walking shoes that can accommodate an orthotic is also helpful.

Does it hurt: When she goes for the walk? Can you tell us more about the actual pain? Is it on the bottom the back? Are there any sores on the heel? Does i t hurt when she first gets out of bed?

Combo treatment. : If you have plantar fasciitis, and hurt most with the first few steps in the morning, the more you can do together, the better: #1: supportive shoes. #2: firm inserts or orthotics. #3: oral antiinflammatories (check with your doctor). #4: stretching your foot and calf. #5: icing (10 min at a time). You may also need physical therapy or cortisone injections, or eswt if available in your area.
