A member asked:

Is it unhygienic to have much pubic hair? i have a gynecologist appointment and i am worried they will say i am unclean or that it is better to get rid of it?

Unwashed hair in any body location is non hygienic- pubic hair is no exception. Pubic hair shaving is a matter of personal choice. However, cuts and nicks from the shaving process can increase the risk of infection to that sensitive area.

Pubic area shaving was uncommon until 15-20 years ago. No gynecologist would consider pubic hair itself, or an unshaved pubic area, as unhygienic. Just use normal hygiene practices: it is considerate to shower or bathe within a day or two of any medical appointment, but nobody will think ill of you just because you have pubic hair. Some even may be pleased to see a "normal" pubic area with hair!
