A member asked:

Is tspo pet imaging currently used for diagnosis of neurological conditions? is it widely available in u.s. hospitals at this time? (tags: positron emission tomography, translocator protein radioligand, neurodegenerative, neuroinflammation, ad, ms?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PET scanning is available on a limited basis in several large US cities, and it remains a very expensive procedure. It is usually used to evaluate metastatic cancers, and does show promise in confirming Alzheimer's dementias. It would not customarily be used for MS, or most acute or inflammatory conditions.
