An ultrasound can measure the wall thickness of structures like the uterus, the chamber size or the size of something inside it. It does not measure LMP, that is a date specific to the woman who had it. The ultrasound can measure the width of the skull. After doing thousands of these measurements verified by later childbirth, they come up with the size range for a given point in pregnancy.
