He is a little bit young for Benadryl syrup but I think that dose will not seriously harm him. Keep a close eye on him and do not worry much if he seems sleepy than usual.

I think that would be a safe dose for a 16 month old who weighs around 20 pounds or more. It might make him a little sleepy as a common side effect at a normal dose, but it will not hurt a normal kid.

If your son is experiencing an allergic reaction, please take him to a Pediatric center. Watch for shortness of breath, hives, drooling and vomiting. If your son has flu like symptoms, a COVID-19 test is recommended and Benadryl is not recommended.
