Not recommended!!!: The safest position for a new baby to sleep is on his/her back, as other position may increase risk of sid (sudden infant death syndrome). Please do not put your baby to sleep on his chest/belly. Many children do so on their own--when they are older and can physically turn themselves over while sleeping and can turn back when uncomfortable. Consult doc. Good luck.

DON'T: Sudden infant death syndrome has been shown to be related to placing babies on their bellies to sleep. They are not always strong enough to turn and can suffocate. They are also "belly breathers" and do not respire as well with their abdomens pressed against the bed below. Keep your child on it's back always. When it is old enough and strong enough to turn on its own sids is seldom seen.

Wait: I quit worrying about sleep position when the kid starts to turn over on their own. The crib death issue peeks and fades before then. I always want to put them down on their back( for the first yr), but i would not loose any sleep over what position she chooses.I would keep the blankets, bumpers and pillows out of the bed so she does not wrap up and suffocate in them.
