My 4 year old daughter was given albuterol at the pediatrician office today but her coughing got worse. is that normal? her pediatrician also prescribed her some but i am afraid shell cough more than how she was before they gave it to her?

The doc likely heard some wheezing on exam. The albuterol opens the small airways some so more air can get in. The cough is a protective reflex that suggests there is retained mucus she needs to cough up. Your goal is better air/oxygen movement with less struggle. Less oxygen & more struggle tires them out & may require hospital care. I would treat her.

She may have improved in the office after use of Albuterol. The prescription was then provided. Review the technique to use the inhaled medication and use as prescribed. If she does not improve in one day, or seems to worsen, please see your pediatrician. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and fever. Consider a COVID 19 test, a flu vaccine is recommended.
