Reconsider: Bromfed dm contains several ingredients including brompheniramine (an older antihistamine), sudafed (a decongestant) and dm (dextramethorphan-- a cough suppressant). This liquid also contains alcohol. While it is approved to age 6 months old, the question to ask is "why is she coughing" and to treat the underlying condition. I try to avoid the approach of multiple medications less is more!

Here's the thing:: Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant & the other ingredients dry up phlegm. If mucus stays in her lungs, any germs in it can overgrow & cause a secondary bacterial infection, like pneumonia. Push fluids till her urine is clear to thin the phlegm so she can cough it up. At that age, kids tend to swallow it, not spit it out. A dose of dm before bed to help her sleep is probably ok.

Not recommended: The fda, as well as the aap do not recommend cough/cold products for young children, as they have not been shown to be effective, and may have side effects. I'd suggest vaporizer, fluids, suction nose with saline, and if over 1 yr, a tsp of honey. Don't use honey if less than 1yr, as there is a risk of botulism.
