Traumatic tap means there's bleeding (needle pierces a small vessel) when spinal tap (LP = lumbar puncture) was done. LP is a procedure to obtain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for analysis. Traumatic tap does not mean traumatic brain injury when people suffer from an accident/injury and it also differs from subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), usually caused by a ruptured intracranial aneurysm.

Traumatic tap indicates needle puncture of lumbosacral venous plexus resulting in bloody spinal fluid which gradually clears. TBI would be unlikely to mimic this
