No: It's not about being politically correct. It is specific to damage from trauma (such as car crash, etc), rather than other types of damage (stroke, etc).

Not always equal: traumatic brain injury means a traumatic event has occurred to the head and brain, causing a fpr, pf braom damage. The term brain damage has a broader connotation, including all causes of damage to the brain, such as infection, metabolic derangement (hypoglycemia etc), poisoning), effects of degenerative disorders).
