YAG lasers target the pigment in your hair bulbs, and sometimes they cannot distinguish between hair bulb pigment and normal skin pigment. So yes, if the laser is being used by an inexperienced operator, or is set too high, you can get skin lightening. Make sure the operator has experience with your skin type, and does a test treatment on a small area before doing your entire face.
