A member asked:

So i've had doctors on here, tell me i don't give enough information... ya'll are aware we only have 250 characters to type a question, yes? my legs both go to sleep at night, i am over weight, but does sugar or salt (large amounts) cause this at all?

Positional numbness of the legs at night comes from Diabetes, Thyroid disease, Vascular problems and Spinal conditions associated with Obesity. Nerve symptoms are like a whisper, more noticeable when you are quiet in bed for sleep. If you dangle your feet off the bed for relief, you need an evaluation of your arteries. Get going and best wishes for taking this seriously.

The pressure on the nerves from being overweight on the nerves may play a major role however high blood sugar could affect nerve function and cause malfunction, so could unbalanced tissue salts. High salt over time with high blood pressure may also affect effective circulation but more the pressure on the nerves from surrounding tissue is what should prompt you to tone the weight down.

There are many conditions which can cause lower extremity numbness during sleep but eating large amount of either sweet or salty foods at one time should not be the cause. I assume besides overweight you have a clean bill of health when I answer this question. If leg numbness (both legs go to sleep at night) persists, you need to see a neurologist.
