You can work as long as you do not have any other symptoms such as shortness of breath (dyspnea), lightheadedness or chest pain which may occur when you have significant heart problem. You should avoid strong coffee or any drinks which contain high coffee content such as Red Bull, etc.

Palpitations do not always mean that there is a problem to be found and solved. It is a food idea to get a follow since ER exams may not be as thorough as an office evaluation by an experienced physician. I would continue to work and potect your job unless your physician states otherwise.
