You said "irregular periods" so this maybe just that. But if you have been sexually active, consider checking a pregnancy test--early pregnancy can cause what you described. Other causes such as recent/current illness, certain medication use/discontinue, rapid weight gain/loss, even severe stress can cause menstrual changes. Check with your doc to make sure. Good luck

If you had sex since your last period, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative, repeat it in 4-5 days. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause.
