Recurrent UTI’s have to to treated proactively and antibiotic selection should be guided based on cultured bacteria and their in vitro sensitivity/resistance to antibiotics. Resistance to antibiotics is becoming a public health issue due to improper use.

Most bacteria in the genitourinary tract are now resistant to Ampicillin alone. However, Augmentin (Ampicillin and clavulanate) is still effective with some.
